Texting While Driving (Side Quests)
drawn on 4-4-12
I recently took jon on a grand adventure to purchase some new art supplies. We ended up at this store near our city. I don’t really remember what it was called exactly, but I recall that it had “Art Supplies” in the title. This was a new store, so I’ve never been there before. We stepped inside and to my surprise, they did not carry ANY art supplies aside from some crafts stuff. I was pissed so I burned the mother fucker down, then went to Michaels. Sadly they didn’t not have everything I needed :( Cool story bro.

seagullisland asked: Hi, I'm planning on starting up a web-comic of my own and I like the layout of your blog on tumblr (it features your work well, haha). Could you tell me the name of the name of the theme you've chosen? It's just what I'm looking for, actually. I'd appreciate it. Anyway, keep up the fantastic work. ;)

Oh thank you. Actually the layout I have is custom made by myself. It’s sort of a modified version of the Just Plain theme. But It doesn’t really have any remnants of that theme anymore. I changed and re-coded everything to my liking so that the tumblr page would be similar to my comic webpage (http://side-quests.com)

Old School Fridays: Hero

drawn on 10-10-11

This comic was included in a Zine I did called, They Don’t Know You, which you can find here. This one in particular was something I did kind of quick after some things happened. I don’t remember what those things were, but judging by this comic, I was probably on tour and feeling sad. This happens on occasion. #firstworldtouringproblems

Old School Friday: Drunk Jesus #6 drawn on 3-25-11
michaelpaul:

Luckily, Jon and I took a visit to Souplantation where we threw around some ideas for Drunk Jesus. This came out a one liner that Jon said. We have a couple more ideas including a introduction of the character of Moses. We are also in talks in writing the Drunk Jesus pilot. We like to think big people. Who wouldn’t want to see a Drunk Jesus tv show? Exactly.

Drunk Jesus will be making his return next week on Side Quests.

t2bcomix asked: Your stuff is great, I've enjoyed all your posts. Curious: What's your process for each week's comic? Do you brainstorm a bunch of ideas or just wait for inspiration to smack you in the face?

Thank you for the compliment. My process is kind of all over the place. Typically, all my comics are based somewhat on things that happen to me in my life or to my friends. I always wanted to keep them real like that. I rarely have nights where I brainstorm ideas. I only do that when I have absolutely no idea what to draw. I keep a little note book with me at all times to write down ideas and jokes when they randomly come to me, then once it comes time to draw the week’s comics, I rewrite the idea and layout how many panels it will need, and then draw that sucker.

Old School Fridays: Coffee
michaelpaul:

drawn on 8-23-11
I was making my coffee this morning with my father and this scenario came to my mind. I found it hilarious and laughed to myself. My Dad thinks I have problems.

During the dark periods of 2011 I was drinking a lot of coffee. Now that we’re in the amazing, yet still the same, year of 2012 I have grown into just drinking a lot of black coffee. I’m sure what this says about my life.

daxprotane asked: I find your dedication amazing and fully support your pursuit of being known as a well rounded, established artist. And just in case it drives you insane, please know i will sit under a sheet with my laptop to upload a "LEAVE MIKE ALONE!!" video.

haha thanks Dave. I really appriciate your support. I’m trying to make comics that will make you proud :) I’ll be waiting for that video, but James has to do it too.

The Time Travelerist (Side Quests)
drawn on 3-14-12
Typically when I forget to do a comic I get pretty upset. I feel that it begins a slippery slop when I slack on something. So for this comic I felt I needed to do something epic and awesome to make up for the lack of comic. It’s kind of a good thing that I forgot because then I wouldn’t have been able to comic up with this story idea. I have no idea when part two will ever be done. Maybe when I forget to do another comic.
